Remiel Pollard wrote:When you find the right corp, you'll understand the difference it can make to one's progression. While this is completely true, a fresh newbie has no real method of finding the right corp except trial and error and they can't really afford to get it wrong when they have very little knowledge about the game and heavily limited access to assets. A newbie going with pretty much any of the corps claiming to be one that would be a positive choice will be lying anyway through either ineptitude or malicious intent, so holding back until you understand a bit more about the game can certainly be a good choice - though by no means the only good choice.

Tsukino Stareine wrote:Oh I forgot one more type of person in npc corps
5. People who have proven to the community that they are just SO bad that no corp will ever recruit them and they're too lazy to make their own
I guess it kind of falls under the umbrella of number 2 but they actually still pay for the game You also forgot number 6, anyone that wants to accomplish anything in highsec that doesn't directly involve war declarations. Look at red frog, their haulers are in NPC corps while their alts, generally with just contract skills, are in the corp just to use the shared contract list. They cant actually function as a corporation so they have to use a shell of a corporation to support what they want to do.
This is the biggest failing of corporations in EVE, they pretty much can't exist at any decent size in highsec without being solely formed for involvement in the "pew pew" variety of PvP, so if you want to be in highsec and your interest doesn't lie in being shot in the face by veterans, there's no real reason to join one. May as well just find a channel with people to chat with (such as the NPC corp channels) and be done with it.

Tsukino Stareine wrote:Alts kind of covers that though Not really, since the Alts are in the player corp. They are used for contracts only while the main skilled character will be the NPC character with the freighter. It's pretty much the opposite of what you stated.

Don't worry to much about Jenn. The way she sees it, the only good way is her way, and if you don't rush in get smashed in the face and persevere, you're doing it wrong and will never earn her respect. If however you're looking to get used to the game at your own pace and learn how to learn rather that just be dumped into a situation and get used to it, your post is fine. The main thing to remember is that there's more than one good way to get into playing EVE. Some people seem to think it's solely about shooting other players and forget everything else.

Jesus Facepalm wrote:There are so, so many corps. that run feeder corps. based in highsec that are there to encourage and support (YES, during times of war and also peacetime) the full gamut of activities that EVE can offer. This is correct, however there are far more corps that won't, and will stagnate the game for its members either through intentional exploitation or ineptitude. A newbie has no way of tracking down a good corp without trial and error, and trial and error is to costly and time consuming for most newbies.
Jesus Facepalm wrote:Your advice sucks. I know plenty of two-week old characters that play just fine in nullsec and they regularly transition between highsec, lowsex, and null. Good for you. I know plenty of two week old characters that have never returned to the game. Just look at CCPs retention stats and you'll see that. This guy is offering an alternative insight which some newbies might find helpful.
Jesus Facepalm wrote:Any smart Alpha who understands sandbox games is gonna see right through you. So what you're saying is that someone who understand as SANDBOX game will play it in just the one way you think is good and that's it? the whole point of the game is that it can be played in a whole range of different ways. Your suggestion is one, Josh has suggested another. Neither is more right or wrong than the other.

And in the world of EvE, boredom kills subs. 2. I joined Horde the moment I finished the career agents Just wanted to point out that while you find the idea of mining or ratting boring, I find the idea of joining horde to be orders of magnitude more boring. Again, it comes down to preference.
